I insulted a man I’ve never met this week, not once but twice. Bob Lutz is a former GM Vice chairman, (also Chrysler executive). Both companies that were bailed out in 2008, Chrysler’s second time at the federal trough. In a CNBC interview Lutz said Tesla, “…has no tech advantage, no software advantage, no battery advantage. No advantages whatsoever,”
Unless Lutz was emphasizing that these are ALL advantages of TESLA (the model 3 did poorly in a braking test by DOT and pushed a software upgrade within 24hrs that greatly improved performance in a follow up test. The Model 3 just got 5 star ratings in EVERY safety category.) then I feel the guy is a complete moron. Almost every facet of the automotive industry is playing catch up to something TESLA has done already. Lutz also went on to say that Mercedes, Audi and BMW all have models coming out to compete with TESLA. He didn’t state that TESLA has 3 production models out, and these other companies have none yet, even though TESLA is basically a startup and the other companies have been around for decades. Lastly Mr/ Lutz said that 95% of drivers still want internal combustion engines, he is 86 I should have forgiven this statement as I am sure Mr Lutz would say most consumers preferred black rotary phones over lime green and cream phones we had in the 1980’s back when he was in his prime. Elon Musk is human, this I am sure of after watching the Joe Rogan podcast, the fact that a human has revolutionized space flight and personal transportation in just over a decade is more impressive than my previous theory, Musk is no longer human and had already achieved breakthroughs with Neuralink and was using integrated AI to achieve these monumental shifts in engineering and material sciences.

I called Lutz a “Moron” and “knuckle dragging Moron.” I regret being a troll, and calling out someone so far past their prime and resorting to name calling vs rational dialogue. I concede that the build rate to employee ratio per unit of car may be an issue but this is a minor issue considering the absolutely absurd challenges Elon Musk has already surmounted. Given a choice between a world with Lutz making decisions and Elon Musk, I choose Musk 10,000 times over. I pray a majority of people agree with me.
